Senior Fitness Workshop
Description
As older adults become more physically active and seek a better quality of life, Allied Health and Fitness Professionals are going to have a bigger opportunity to work with senior clients. How should a Health and Fitness Professional get started with someone new to exercise? What are the right steps to determine an appropriate level of intensity? Exercise screening and fitness assessments are the first steps to designing an appropriate program. In this session you’ll review some basic assessments and look at how some simple, easy to administer assessments are the key to starting out with your clients successfully. We will also discuss the concepts of motivational constructs from Prochaska's Stages of Change, and Deci & Ryan's Theory of Self-Determination to better understand how to motivate older adults to begin and to maintain activity.
