Medical Fitness

Description

When personal trainers work with young, healthy clients, there are few concerns other than avoiding orthopedic problems. While the same principles of exercise prescription apply to all, the longer clients have been sedentary and the more risk factors or medical restrictions they have, the more modifications of exercise programs that the trainer should make. An exercise program for a client with high blood pressure may be different from that for a client with type 2 diabetes. The personal trainer needs to know what types of activities to emphasize and to avoid in each case. Added to this complexity is the fact that many clients will have more than one or two medical problems. This workshop will discuss programs for different clients and modifications that may be needed, as well as the role that genetics plays in how clients respond to exercise and adapt to training.
